„We need to talk“ – an experiment on the Viennese Coffeehouse Culture

Süddeutsche Magazine spent an entire day in a Viennese coffeehouse in order to meet, greet and talk. An  experiment: Café Engländer in Vienna’s 1st district is one of THE hotspots for Austria’s intellectuals, artists, philosophers, creatives and wannabes.

One day and 12 interesting people, among others, Erwin Wurm (artist), Stefan Ruzowitzy (director), Marlene Streeruwitz (writer), Gustav (musician) and Thomas Glavinic (writer) meet for coffee, tea and cigarettes. The themes: Austrians, Adorno, Germans, football, Jörg Haider and Hansi Hinterseer, Opera Ball, dementia and suicide among physicians.
